Kia look to take on the luxury EV market

When you think of luxury cars, you might instantly think of brands such as Porsche or Jaguar – known for their rich history in creating bespoke cars that look as good as they drive. Luxury isn’t usually a term used to describe a Kia, not in its earlier days that’s for certain, but times really are changing for this extremely popular brand.

Kia has revealed a brand new EV that looks set to take on the likes of the Tesla Model X, Audi E-Tron and Porsche Taycan. Known as the EV6, it’s the beginning of a new E-GMP platform that boasts up to 316 miles range – and there’ll be a sporty EV6 GT in the line-up that offers rapid performance, too.

The EV6 line-up is launching with a choice of two batteries, with two and four-wheel drive available. This starts with the standard range 58kWh model, which uses a 168bhp rear-mounted electric motor in entry-level two-wheel drive form. Kia says that for the AWD variant a total of 232bhp is on offer. With a maximum of 605Nm of torque, it gives a 0-62mph time of 6.2 seconds, so even the slowest EV6 should offer a surprising turn of pace relative to a conventional family crossover.

Kia will offer an even sportier version of its new electric crossover, called the EV6 GT.This takes power up to a total of 577bhp from a dual-motor set-up, offering four-wheel drive as standard. As a result, the 0-62mph time drops to a sports car-rivalling 3.5 seconds, while a top speed of 162mph is targeted. Impressive stuff!

Instagram Story drafts are coming!

Ever spent more time than you should have on an impressive looking Instagram Story, only to accidentally click off or lose where you were? We’ve all been there.

Thankfully, Instagram have listened to the outcry of many, and are set to introduce a draft section within the Stories tab. This will help creators out massively, and the option will provide more flexibility in utilising Stories, while it’ll also be helpful for brands that are looking to post their updates at the most relevant times for their audience.

By having your drafts within the app, you’ll be able to view them as they’ll appear to users, while you’ll also be able to utilise Instagram’s full feature set in your draft creation process. This is exactly what many users had been crying out for, as although users currently have the ability to save Stories, it doesn’t allow them to then edit text or music for example.

Instagram hasn’t said when, exactly, the option will be released, but it’s coming soon, and it’ll be worth experimenting with it to see how it can help in your process.

The Volvo XC40 looks to gain even more traction

It’s one of Britain’s most popular cars, winning a multitude of awards and gaining thousands of loyal fans along the way, but the road for the Volvo XC40 looks far from over. In fact, it’s just getting started.

Whatcar.com has exclusively revealed its most popular new car reviews as car buyers increase their research ahead of what’s being labelled as ‘Manic Monday’ – That’s April 12th if you hadn’t already guessed. The research shows increased interest in Volvo’s baby model of the range, the XC40, which tops the site’s most popular charts.

But we are here to talk about the XC40 P8 Recharge today, the brand’s latest fully EV variant that has some serious performance figures: 402 horsepower, a 0-60mph time of just 4.9 seconds and a range of 257 miles – impressive all round then!

What is interesting is its competition, as Volvo seems to only have one main rival with this fully electric EV, and that’s from its sister company: Polestar. The Polestar 2 may look a little different to the XC40, but underneath the performance and reliability is identical. The Polestar is sportier, slightly heavier and feels far more enjoyable on the road, whereas the XC40 is designed to be the perfect all-rounder, easily tackling the twists and turns of a school run as well as munching motorway miles with ease.

It’s not cheap though, with high spec variants surpassing £60,000. This won’t matter to many though, as Volvo’s impressive subscription service looks to be showing no signs of slowing down. In fact,  Volvo says 95% of XC40 EV customers use the service, where a three-year, 30,000-mile contract with no deposit is £649 per month, or £23,364 in total.
